There is a lot of crime but only in Scranton, about 6 hours in school a day, what I do for fun is play sports such as.................. football, basketball, and baseball. Hi!, I'm Sarah and I go to Dunmore Elm. Center! And we do not have any languages that we learn because we are in the 6th grade and only in the High School we learn other langauges such as:
Spanish

no,htere is not much crime in this part ofdunmore. I go to Dunmore School it is 6hours long....My favorte thing to do is to hang out with my friends..Iplayed soft ball it was really fun we have pizza,hotdog's but my favorite kind is my mom's fetichinie it's really good...well I speak Englishn and Freanch I haveaTV,raido,coummputer,and two cell phone's oneis for talking on and the other is for taking picters..wellthe stores are kinda hard to explan..well right know its fallso its starting to get cold...we are learning about greece right know in socail studies ok well gtg bye

There is not much crime in Dunmore,but there is crime in neighboring city Scranton Pa a typical day in our school is 6 hours Dunmore is in Northeast Pennsylvania next to Scranton
the food we have in Dunmore is white pizza,tacos and other foods

well to start off I live in Pennsylvanisa (USA) Dunmore or aka Bucktown.Our school represanative is the Buck lol we are in the semi finals. Are tipical school day is 6 hours.our language is English.there isnt a lot allot of crime but we arent the safest lol.
we eat allot of Itailian food and german food.yumm.i dont play any sports but i do cheer for midget football.the b team im 12.and im very pretty everyone says.well we dont have many stores we have Abercrombie and Hollister and Aeropostale and Justice for girls.we have playstation 2s and 3s and psps and wiis and tv and ipods and dvd players and all that good stuff.we live on a very mountonious climate we are learning social studies and math and science and english and reading and all that boring stuff.

hi i'm Tom im a 11 year old male and our mascot is a buck and we are in the quarter finals ,no there isnt a lot of crime in our area. our school day is 6 1/2 hours. for fun i play on the computer and play with my friends. i play baseball football and basketball. we have italian chinese and other such foods. i speak english and i am learning some italian. i have ps2, xbox, nintendo ds ,etc . we have walmart kmart and target . we have a climate in which it is hot in the summer and cold in the winter.we are learning about ancient greece .

Ms. Moore's Social Studies Class Update

We are still learning about culture and we are continuing to have excellent discussions on culture around the world. We have been reading all the comments and questions, and we are planning on answering them soon.

Comment Question 1: This is a great topic! I wonder how much culture shapes you, or do you make culture. Which one happens more?

Our Answers:
Today, our class had a quick discussion about how culture shapes us. We took a poll on how our class views the following question: Are you born into culture, or can you create culture as an individual? The results were: 17 felt that we are born into culture and 4 felt that we can create/change culture.

We are very excited to see new comments on our blog each day, and we have had some great discussions already! Please keep the comments and questions coming!

We are currently working on posting more information on the culture of our school and Plano, Illinois.

Class Definition of Culture

Definition of Culture:

A group of people with similar customs relating to people's religion, language, clothes, technology, foods, sports, markets, housing, entertainment and the many other cultural traits.

We know this is a working definition for our class to investigate. We came up with this definition after a 5 minute class discussion. Please let us know what you think we should add, edit, change, etc.

About Us

We are students from Ms. Moore’s 6th grade social studies class. We are from Plano, Illinois in the United States of America. Our new school is Emily G. Johns, and it holds grades 4-6. Our mascot is the Jaguar. Go Jaguars!

At our school, we have many activities. Some activities include football, basketball, baseball, cheerleading, and softball. Our high schools varsity football team, the Plano Reapers, was state champs in 2006! They are doing great again this year and are one game away from the state championship again.

Plano, Illinois is in a rural area. If you came here, you would see many cornfields, but this is quickly changing. Many of the local farms are disappearing because of our large population growth. In the summer it gets very hot here, and in the winter it gets very cold. We have many stores to shop at, like Walmart, Khols, and Target. There are also fast food restaurants like McDonalds and Subway.

In our class, we focused heavily on geography first quarter. Currently, we are learning about culture. We have some interesting questions for other classrooms:

Cultural Exchange

Mrs. Moore's Social Studies class is looking to exchange cultural information with schools from around the world. This is our first attempt at an activity like this. Thank you to anyone and everyone we exchange information with.
